But Pane Vino e San Daniele is also a historic place, a good typical cuisine, a heartily laugh over a glass of wine. It is a break to enjoy without haste, it is that frico you never thought you would find in Venice. It is a story, a smell, a flavour… And this is what makes it unique. We are in calle dei Botteri, near Rialto, a street that takes its name from the barrel makers who populated it in ancient times. Right in this street, in the last century, a rustic place called trattoria Agli Amici was born. It was the favourite haunt of many locals, eager to spend some time in tranquillity. It didn’t take much to feel good: playing cards, having a little conversation, sipping an ombra of wine. Today the osteria has changed, but just like in the past it remains a reference point – for regular customers who come over any time; for new ones who are welcomed in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Here where joy, friendship, and good food are all that matters. We are in calle dei Botteri, near Rialto, a street that takes its name from the barrel makers who populated it in ancient times. Pane Vino e San Daniele is the result of William’s commitment. “Willy” as everyone knows him, from Bologna and Venetian by adoption, with a passion for cooking inherited from his family. After working in various wineries, he finally realizes his dream: to open his own restaurant. So in 2003 Pane e Vino was opened, right in the spaces of that historic trattoria. At the counter and at the tables, from morning to night, the stories of people passing through and lifelong friends meet, between the clink of glasses and the scent of dishes from splendid regions. Moments that reminds of traditions, as warm as a hug. The warmth that comes from the pleasure of being together, in this osteria where you can feel like home. Great restaurant off the beaten track! A short walk from the overpriced restaurants on the canal on a quiet, pretty street. Hosts were really friendly and food was really fresh. I’d recommend a range of small plates so you can try a bit of everything!0Phily
Stumbled upon this restaurant trying to stay away from the tourist traps. In my group was a lactose and gluten intolerant friend and a vegetarian so can be hard to find a good place. This turned up trumps. We had lasagne, gnocchi and soup, they even freshly made gluten free focaccia… Ask what they have off the main menu, their specialities… And great local wine…katecon18
Leave the main path and visit Pane Vino. The staff, the well prepared food and the excellent wine is definitely worth it. Genuine local restaurant with very reasonable price. We had one of the best dinners of our three week Italian trip.THarnvi
